The Latest Scoop on "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2"

-- On June 20, 2012, the moment that so many "Twilight" fans had been waiting for had finally arrived-the first full trailer for "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2" came out on the Internet. It was met with great fanfare and hope that the final installment of the film would live up to the hype.

People began talking about how exciting the trailer seemed and how powerful new vampire Bella looked with her red eyes and determination. Fans seemed happy with the trailer, and even some cynics admitted it looked good. All was well in "Twilight" land. That is, until July 23, 2012, when rumors began to circulate on the Web that Kristen Stewart, who plays female lead Bella, had cheated on her boyfriend Robert Pattinson, who plays male lead Edward Cullen.

The reaction from fans was immediate, swift and full of denial. Before "Us Weekly" published the photos the next day, fans were already saying the pictures were a hoax. In their minds, there is no way that anyone would cheat on Pattinson, who is seen as a sex symbol by the adoring legion of "Twilight" fans. Accusations of Photoshop and other manipulations were rampant before they had even seen a single snapshot.

A day after the pictures were published, Stewart and the man she cheated with, "Snow White and the Huntsman" director Rupert Sanders, both released public statements. They both expressed how sorry they were for their actions and how much pain it caused their significant others. Sanders is married to model Liberty Ross and has two small children with her.

The debate began about what effect the scandal would have, if any, on "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2." Would fans still turn out in droves for the film, or would some, crestfallen by Stewart's cheating, decide to stay home. Most conceded that the "Twilight" franchise is a bullet train that can't be stopped, even by a media circus as big as this.

The only real question is how the publicity for the movie would happen if Stewart and Pattinson are no longer an item. Usually, the two stars, along with Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black) are all cozy and hug each other on the red carpet for the premier of the film. They are also often interviewed together to promote the film. In all likelihood, the interviews would now be separate, and the two stars may walk the red carpet separately to avoid any awkward moments.

In early August, distributor Summit Entertainment, seemingly in a move to try and avert attention from the Stewart drama, released some juicy news about the ending to the movie. During an interview about the final installment with Pattinson, it was revealed that the ultimate ending of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2" veers away from the ending in the book that it is based on.

The changes were apparently the brainchild of screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg as well as book author Stephenie Meyer, who created the characters. They had dinner together one night while the screenplay was still being finalized and decided that a change needed to happen. So far, the films have stayed mostly faithful to the books, but this entry may stray from that formula in more than just the ending.

When the trailer was released, vampire Garrett (Lee Pace) is shown being chummy with the Denali coven, which is in direct opposition from his character's actions in the books. This could just be a function of how the trailer was edited, or it could be real. Have the film's producers put a red herring into the trailer to give fans a surprise when they see the full movie, or has Garrett changed sides?

The speculation about Garrett and the new ending seems to have taken away some of the bite of the Stewart-Pattinson drama. That could easily all change when it comes time to start promoting the movie, though. It will mostly depend on Pattinson, who allegedly has not decided yet whether to forgive Stewart or send her packing. Either way, a juggernaut such as "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2" will likely not be impacted at the box office as a result of their relationship issues. Fans will probably still turn out in droves to see the movie. In the trailer, Jacob says, "There are a lot of red eyes around here." If you wait outside a movie theater on November 16, that line will be true as fans give a teary goodbye to their beloved vampires and werewolves.
