Chris Noth has said the 'Sex and the City' movies are "dead".

The 55-year-old actor - who portrayed Mr. Big in six series and two movies of the franchise - believes the media "killed" the possibility of any future movies because of the bad press given to their second big-screen outing.

He told New York Magazine: "It's over. The franchise is dead. The press killed it. Your magazine f**king killed it. New York Magazine. It's like all the critics got together and said, 'This franchise must die.'

"They all had the exact same review. It's like they didn't see the movie."

Previously Kim Cattrall, who plays one of the four leading ladies in the series alongside Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, admitted she would "love" to work on a third movie.

She said: "It's something that will be decided by a big CEO sitting in a wardrobe working out budgets but I'd love to do it again.

"What other film would take you on a trip to the Sahara desert?"

'Sex and the City 2' grossed $288 million worldwide upon its release, while the first film made $415 million at the box office in 2008.
