Weekend Box Office Wrap-Up

--"The Pirates! Band of Misfits" landed second spot at the box office this weekend, winning over audiences with its British charm and wacky wit. The family-friendly animated adventure earned over $11 million on its opening weekend. The film features the voice talents of Hugh Grant, Martin Freeman, David Tennant and Salma Hayek. The story focuses on the Pirate Captain, a bumbling pirate who wishes to win the Pirate of the Year Award. His clumsy crew might make it hard to beat his rivals."The Pirates! Band of Misfits" is rated PG for some rude humor, language and mild action scenes.

The producers of "Bridesmaids" brought audiences a new romantic comedy this weekend. "The Five-Year Engagement" grossed $11,156,800. Tom and Violet are young, in love and excited about their future together. Unfortunately, life keeps getting in the way of their actual wedding date. The comedy is rated R for language and suggestive themes.

Jason Statham stars in "Safe," the action thriller that earned $7,720,000 this past weekend. A young Chinese girl with amazing capabilities becomes the unwitting target of dangerous crime rings. It is up to a former elite agent to save her life and fulfill an important mission at the same time. "Safe" has an R rating for language and strong violence.

"The Raven" features Edgar Allen Poe taking a turn as an action star. Poe's career as a writer has taken a turn for the worse, but he finds new life as a detective. When he learns that a killer has been copying his morbid stories by committing chilling real-life crimes, the writer vows to use his sharp mind to track the killer down. The suspenseful gothic thriller is rated R for disturbing images and violence. "The Raven" earned $7,250,000 during its opening weekend.

Other Theatrical Releases
"Think Like a Man" remains number one at the box office, earning $18 million this weekend and bringing the total gross to over $60 million. The story focuses on a group of couples. The women get together and read Steve Harvey's popular relationship advice book, with hilarious results. The movie is rated R for some drug use, crude humor and suggestive themes.

"The Lucky One" brought in over $11,325,000 this past weekend, with total earnings of over $39 million. Zac Efron stars as a young soldier who carries around a photograph of a beautiful young woman. The only problem is, the soldier has never met the woman. Fate might intervene to change that. "The Lucky One" is rated PG-13 for mature themes and violence.

"The Hunger Games" earned $11,250,000, landing at fourth place in box office rankings. Total earnings since the film's opening weekend amount to over $372 million. Katniss is one of 24 teenagers who have a choice: kill or be killed. Katniss struggles to survive the unforgiving game. The film is rated PG-13 for disturbing images and violence, all involving teenagers.

Disneynature's "Chimpanzee" earned $5,460,000 this weekend. A young chimpanzee named Oscar has fun spending time with his clan, but one day he accidentally winds up separated and alone. Although things look bleak for the little chimp, he ends up making an unexpected friend who will change everything. The family-friendly film is rated G and features rare, amazing footage of chimpanzees.

"Joyful Noise" is available on DVD on Tuesday, May 1st. Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah go head to head in this gospel-filled musical, playing two women who both want to take control of the church choir. It soon becomes clear that the women will have to join forces if they want the choir to flourish, but their clashing personalities might make it impossible to get along. The movie is rated PG-13 for some language.

"New Year's Eve" brings together an all-star cast to tell the intertwining stories of friends and strangers. In New York City, everyone is preparing to turn a new leaf. For some people, that means changing their lives completely. For others, it means holding on to beloved traditions just one more day. The film is rated PG-13 for language.

Gina Carano, Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor and others appear in "Haywire," a fast-paced action movie. The film is rated R for violence. Mallory Kane is a tough, smart and beautiful black ops soldier. When someone betrays her and she finds her life in grave danger, Kane refuses to back down. She sets out on a daredevil mission to seek revenge.

Madonna takes a turn in the director's chair with "W.E.," a movie due out on DVD on May 1st. A young woman living in the late 1990s becomes obsessed with the story of the tormented romance between the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, many years earlier. The historical romantic drama is rated R for nudity, language and some domestic violence.
