Labor Day Weekend New Releases!

"Closed Circuit" opened in theaters nationwide on Wednesday, August 28. John Crowley directs the crime drama, which focuses on two lawyers who accept a highly publicized case. They agree to represent a client who faces charges of international terrorism. Although Martin and Claudia feel prepared to face a storm of media controversy, they are not ready for the dark secrets and dangerous lies they uncover. Language and brief violence contribute to an R rating.

"Getaway" opens in theaters on Friday, August 30. Ethan Hawke stars as Brent Magna, a retired race car driver. When his wife vanishes, Brent must either get back behind the wheel of a car or pay the price. Following the instructions of a stranger, Brent pushes himself beyond his limits in a quest to save the woman he loves. The movie's PG-13 rating is due to intense action, violence, and mayhem, as well as rude gestures and some language. Courtney Solomon directs.

"One Direction: This Is Us" shines a spotlight on both the public moments and private lives of a British boy band. Since their discovery on "The X Factor," the five young men have become pop stars of the highest order. Niall, Louis, Zayn, Harry, and Liam share their back stories, painting a portrait of the band's unpredictable road to success. Morgan Spurlock directs. The documentary has a PG rating for some mild language.

"The Lifeguard" opens in select theaters on August 30. Kristen Bell is Leigh, a woman on the cusp of thirty who feels dissatisfied with her life in New York. Coming home feels like a fresh start, especially when she lands a low-stakes job as a lifeguard. Unable to connect with her peers, Leigh finds herself falling for a teen with his own issues. The R rating is due to strong mature content, brief graphic nudity, drug use, a disturbing image, and language, some involving teens. Liz W. Garcia directs.

"Passion" is a thriller from Brian De Palma. Christine appears to be a successful woman, with a prominent job at an advertising firm and a supportive husband. However, behind the scenes, Christine can be manipulative and ruthless. Her relationship with Isabelle, a mild-mannered assistant, takes a dark turn when Christine pushes the other woman a little too far. The edgy film has an R rating for mature content, language, and violence.

Continuing Films

"Lee Daniels' The Butler" has been generating Oscar buzz. While working with eight Presidents, Cecil witnesses everything from the Civil Rights Act to the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. Since Cecil is a butler, he does not have much impact on current events, but he does have a personal stake in the direction the world takes. Directed by Lee Daniels, the film has a PG-13 rating for violence, disturbing images, smoking, mature content, thematic elements, and language.

"We're the Millers" is a comedy from Rawson Marshall Thurber. After a problem arises, drug dealer David has a chance to redeem himself with a smuggling job. To avoid standing out, David rallies a band of reluctant misfits to pose as his wholesome wife and two teenage kids. Crude, mature content, graphic nudity, pervasive language, and drug content contribute to an R rating.

"The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" stars Lily Collins as Clary, a teenager who realizes that she comes from a long line of demon-hunting warriors. With the help of her new friends, Clary has to learn to harness her powers quickly, since her mother's life hangs in the balance. The film has a PG-13 rating for intense sequences of fantasy action and violence, as well as for suggestive content. Harald Zwart directs.

"The World's End" is the final entry in director Edgar Wright's Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy. As a teen, Gary and his closest pals tried to complete a pub crawl that included a dozen pubs. They failed. But now, Gary wants his friends to rejoin him and finally finish the epic quest. The comedy's R rating is due to language that includes mature references.

"Planes" features Dane Cook as the voice of Dusty, a cropduster who longs to leave his modest cornfield behind and join the glamorous world of racing. With the support of his buddy, Chug, and a grouchy retired war plane named Skipper, Dusty gets serious about his future. The family-friendly movie has a PG rating for rude humor and some action. Klay Hall directs.

"You're Next" is a suspenseful horror film from Adam Wingard. What should be a relaxing family getaway at a luxurious vacation home turns into a brutal, vicious battle for survival. With family members being picked off one by one, the survivors have to wonder who will be the next to die. Mature content, language, nudity, and strong, bloody violence contribute to the film's R rating.
