Liam Neeson stood under freezing showers for minutes at a time to prepare himself for 'The Grey'.

The 59-year-old actor takes a leading role in the movie about a team of oil rig workers who find themselves being attacked by wolves in Alaska, and he admits he undertook intense preparations to get ready for the cold temperatures he would face in the region.

He said: ''I remembered seeing a documentary about this crazy Brit who swims in the Antarctic, from iceberg to iceberg.

''He would stand under freezing cold showers for 10 minutes, so I thought I'd do that. I got up to seven minutes. When we were filming in Canada, it was minus 40 degrees - and it worked.''

However, the 'Taken' star admits he did not reveal his secret coping technique to the other cast members.

He joked to The Metro: ''I didn't tell the other cast members what I'd done. There are some secrets you've got to keep to yourself.''
