Kristen Stewart: Fad or Fabulous?

Best known for her role as Bella Swan in the "Twilight" movie series, Kristin Stewart seems to have finally achieved superstar status. Some actors work for many years before they become celebrities, but for Stewart, her road to fame was a relatively short one.

Early Career

Stewart began her career in 1998 with small non-speaking roles after a Hollywood producer noticed the 8 year old acting in a school play. By 2002, she landed a co-starring role with two of Hollywood's biggest A-listers, Jodie Foster and Forest Whitaker. Before filming even ended on "Panic Room" in 2002, Stewart was looking forward to her next movie roles.

Movies and Awards

By the time Stewart turned 18 years old in 2008, she had appeared in 17 movies, including "Cold Creek Manor," "A Space Adventure," "Undertow" and "Into the Wild," and her career showed no signs of stopping. She has appeared on countless television shows and has many entertainment awards, including MTV Movie awards, SAG awards Nickelodeon Kids Choice awards and Young Artist awards.

Bella Swan

Stewart's career went into fast forward when she landed the role of Bella Swan in the "Twilight" movie series. In it, she plays a young girl caught between the affections of a vampire, played by Robert Pattinson, and a werewolf, played by Taylor Lautner. The series became known for shattering revenue projections and records in Hollywood. In fact, "Twilight: Eclipse" made back its production costs of $30 million just three hours after opening in theaters.

Although Stewart was no stranger to fame and celebrity, much of her early work was as a child in adult series or in movies created for children. Her reprisal of Bella Swan cemented her place as an adult actress who brings depth and grace to each role she plays.

The Future

Despite her stardom, Kristen Stewart leads a relatively normal life and fiercely defends her privacy. She spends time with her friends, takes care of her three dogs and cat and dreams of attending college in Australia. While she makes the occasional red carpet appearance, she does not follow the paths that starlets like Lindsey Lohan have taken.

For most celebrities, seeking publicity is almost a full-time job, but Kristen Stewart's low profile has not hurt her career in any way to date. The "Twilight" series put her in front of a brand new audience, and whether they will remain loyal to her after the end of the series remains to be seen.

In the upcoming "Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part II," things change drastically for Bella as she transforms into the role of a vampire. Despite Kristen's current success in the series, what happens in the future could depend on how audiences view her in this new role. Instead of being the object of Edward's attention, Bella becomes a strong woman and fierce hunter, and this could dramatically change the way the audience perceives her.

After the Series

Stewart has continued to take on movie roles in between the "Twilight" segments, including taking on the role of Joan Jett in "The Runaways" in 2010 and an appearance in "K-11" in 2009. What happens to her after the "Twilight" saga ends is up to her and the roles she chooses to play. While many child actors and actresses fail to find success in adult roles, it seems as though Stewart may have tapped into Jodie Foster's experience in making the transformation successfully.

Her financial success gives Stewart the option to retire if she chooses. On "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn," Kristen will make $25 million plus 7.5 percent of gross revenues, which would make her take on this film alone a whopping $41 million or so, enough for the young actress to retire in style.
