"Mad Max: Fury Road"

With Tom Hardy cast as Max Rockatansky, Warner Bros. is betting on a big hit with "Mad Max: Fury Road." Although it has been three decades since the last Mad Max film was released, the new sequel appears to have all of the right ingredients for a spectacular action film. Complete with plenty of fight scenes and a post-apocalyptic setting, "Mad Max: Fury Road" is definitely a must-see during the coming year. The fourth installment in the Mad Max franchise, the production has suffered delays since 2011 despite receiving a green light for an astounding $100 million budget. Director George Miller originally wanted a post-apocalyptic feel for the film; however, record levels of rain in the Australian desert made it impossible to shoot there. Shooting was consequently moved to Africa where further delays were encountered due to security concerns. Now that the highly anticipated film is scheduled to be released in 2014, fans will finally get a chance to welcome back the beloved science fiction franchise. Charlize Theron costars in the film.

"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay–Part 1"

Jennifer Lawrence reprises her role at Katniss Everdeen in the third installment of the "Hunger Games" franchise. Based on the third novel of the hit trilogy by Suzanne Collins, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay–Part 1" is already drawing considerable attention even though it is not scheduled to hit theaters until November 21, 2014. The final book of the series will be made into two films. In part one, the narrative picks up as Katniss has become the leading symbol of the rebellion and finds herself in the position of the Mockingjay while fighting against the Capitol.

"Kane & Lynch"

Also due out in 2014 is "Kane & Lynch." Based on the story of two inmates, Kane and Lynch, who receive assistance in escaping from prison to fulfill what appears to be a suicide mission, this film is certain to keep fans on the edge of their seats. Once released from prison, the two inmates have only 72 hours to retrieve a microchip that is essential to completing an extremely dangerous device. To make matters even more intense, Kane's wife and child are being held hostage by the very people who helped the inmates escape from prison. Gerard Butler takes on the role of Kane while Vin Diesel portrays Lynch.

"The Legend of Conan" is also slated to hit theaters in 2014. What began as a successful franchise during the 1980s is now designed to appeal to an entirely new generation. Arnold Schwarzenegger returns in the role of the iconic Conan. The film is based on the idea that as a king, soldier, mercenary, and warrior, Conan is now coming closer to the end of his life. While he is well aware of the fact that he will be making the journey to Valhalla, his last desire is to go out of this life with one good, final battle.

"Sabotage"

The coming year could prove to be quite successful for the former governor of California. He is also scheduled to appear in "Sabotage." Schwarzenegger plays a police officer at war with an extremely dangerous drug cartel. When the cop's division runs a raid on a safe house controlled by the cartel, things get complicated. What at first appears to be a completely legitimate operation is soon revealed to be an officer-planned heist. As the robbers die off one by one, it becomes apparent that there are dangerous consequences. Produced with a budget of $40 million and with Schwarzenegger cast in the film's leading role, "Sabotage" could turn out to be one of the most successful action films of 2014.
