Box Office Recap: What Happened over the Weekend?

"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" caught fire at the box office during the weekend of November 22, earning $161,125,000. After her big win, Katniss begins to realize that she cannot return to her life in District 12. The authorities at the Capitol conspire to make sure that life is anything but peaceful for the Districts, and Katniss must prepare for yet another battle. The PG-13 rating is due to frightening images, intense sequences of violence and action, thematic elements, language, and a suggestive situation.

"Delivery Man" opened with $8,215,000. David made ends meet by selling his sperm during his younger years. Now in his 40s, he's forgotten about his past. The past hasnŐt forgotten about David. With over 500 biological children, David has to answer to people with questions about their paternity. The comedy has a PG-13 rating for thematic elements, mature content, drug material, brief violence, and language.

Continuing Films

"Thor: The Dark World" saw profits of $14,117,000. Overall, the action film has brought in over $167 million. A battle between the Asgardians and the Dark Elves could have devastating consequences for the entire universe, especially after Dr. Jane Foster unwittingly becomes a pawn in the fight. Thor will have to draw on all his strength and cunning to divert disaster. The movie's PG-13 rating is due to suggestive content and intense sci-fi action and violence.

"The Best Man Holiday" earned $12,500,000 during the weekend of November 22, bringing total earnings to more than $50 million. In the years that have passed since Harper published his novel, the friends' lives have changed in both positive and negative ways. When Mia invites the old gang to reunite during the holidays, they waste no time in rekindling old flames and rivalries. Language, nudity, and mature content contribute to an R rating.

During the weekend before Thanksgiving, "Free Birds" earned $5,300,000. Overall, the movie has brought in more than $48 million. Thanksgiving may be a happy holiday for most Americans, but turkeys live in fear of November. Jake and Reggie form a reluctant team to go back in time and change the fate of turkeys. The Pilgrims aren't as welcoming as the birds expected. The animated movie has a PG rating for action, peril, and mild rude humor.

"Last Vegas" brought in $4,400,000, with total profits now reaching over $53 million. During his later years, Billy finally proposes to his girlfriend. He wants his three closest pals to come join him for a bachelor party celebration in Las Vegas. Though their lives are different, the four reunite and learn that some things never change. "Last Vegas" has a PG-13 rating for mature content and language.

"Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa" has surpassed the $95 million mark in box office proceeds. This past weekend, the film earned $3,450,000. After ending up with custody of his young grandson, Irving decides to take a road trip to pass Billy off to his deadbeat dad. During the journey, Irving will find plenty of opportunities to introduce Billy to the more chaotic side of life. The R rating is due to strong crude and mature content, language, graphic nudity, and brief drug use.

"Red 2" arrives out on DVD and Blu-Ray on Tuesday, November 26. Frank Moses is just hoping to lead a quiet, normal life, but fate seems to have other plan for him. The former C.I.A. agent soon becomes part of his old team, this time hoping to prevent a devastating nuclear disaster from taking place. "Red 2" has a PG-13 rating for pervasive action and violence that includes frenetic gunplay, as well as for language and drug material.

"Jobs" traces the life of visionary Steve Jobs, from his beginnings as an underachieving college student to his astonishing success as the co-founder of Apple Inc. The path to his eventual success was paved with challenges, triumphs, and drama, resulting in a fascinating life story. The biopic has a PG-13 rating for brief drug use and strong language.

In "Getaway," a former racer finds his life turned upside-down. With his wife missing, Brent's only choice is to become part of a string of mysterious crimes. Brent must make every move wisely if he wants to outpace certain disaster. Ethan Hawke stars. The PG-13 rating is due to intense action, violence, and mayhem, as well as to language and rude gestures.

"The Canyons" is a creative collaboration between Bret Easton Ellis and Paul Schrader. Christian learns that his girlfriend is having an affair, leading to jealousies and insecurities that could destroy everyone involved. Lindsay Lohan stars as the fragile young woman caught in the center of the disturbing mind games. The R rating is due to strong mature content, graphic nudity, language, brief drug use, and a bloody crime scene.
