Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Box Office Wrap-Up

During Memorial Day weekend, "Fast & Furious 6" raced to first place in box office rankings. The film earned $98,500,000. After pulling off a heist that left him banished from his own country, Dom leads an uneasy life on the lam. He receives an offer that is risky, but holds a huge pay-off. If he can succeed at this task, Dom will finally get to return home. "Fast & Furious 6" has a PG-13 rating for sexuality, language, and intense sequences of violence, action, and mayhem.

"The Hangover Part III" came in second place behind "Fast & Furious 6," earning $42,415,000 over the weekend. Together with earnings from its Thursday opening, the movie has brought in $54,204,463. After Alan goes off his medication, his friends try to help him seek appropriate care and attention. One of their past acquaintances has escaped from prison and is back in the United States. The intervention goes horribly awry, forcing the friends to face old issues once again. The raunchy comedy's R rating is due to brief graphic nudity, drug content, violence, and mature references.

"Epic" performed well during the weekend. Earnings of $34,200,000 have brought the film to third place in overall box office rankings. A young teenage girl reluctantly spends time with her estranged father, an eccentric man who tries to convince her that the forests have a secret population of Leafmen. Though she scoffs at the idea, the heroine accidentally ends up right in the middle of this miniature world. "Epic" has a PG rating for scary images, mild action, and brief rude language.

"Star Trek Into Darkness" earned $38 million during Memorial Day weekend. Overall, the sci-fi epic has brought in more than $146 million. When Captain Kirk guides the Enterprise back home, he is devastated to learn that his home planet is in conflict. In order to stop the villain responsible for the mayhem, Captain Kirk accepts one of the most dangerous missions of his career and heads into hostile territory. The movie's PG-13 rating is due to intense sequences of sci-fi action and violence.
"Iron Man 3" has brought in more than $367 million during its run, including the $19,424,000 earned over the weekend. Tony Stark seems to have everything: a beautiful girlfriend, a thriving corporation, and the identity of Iron Man. His self-doubt is taking a huge toll on him, however. When a terrorist brings upheaval to the country, Stark has to overcome his personal demons and save the day. The movie's PG-13 rating is due intense sci-fi action and violence, as well as brief suggestive content.

"The Great Gatsby" earned $13,705,000 during the weekend. In total, the movie has earned over $114 million. Jay Gatsby presents a carefree and powerful face to the world. In the lavish high society of the 1920s, Gatsby is at the center of every party. His obsessive love for a married woman may prove to be his downfall, especially if it reveals his secret past. The film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's iconic novel has a PG-13 rating for violent images, smoking, partying, brief language, and mature content.

With weekend profits of 1,215,000, "The Croods" has surpassed the $179 million mark. Eep Crood dreams of a life beyond the walls of her cave, and fate intervenes in an unexpected way. As Eep and her family journey across a fantastical and sometimes dangerous landscape, they have to trust their guide, an open-minded and inventive young man named Guy. "The Croods" has a PG rating for scary action.

"Dark Skies" arrives out on DVD and Blu-Ray on Tuesday, May 28. A family's peaceful, ordinary life starts to crumble around the edges. Bizarre and unexplainable occurrences haunt them, making them question everything they thought they knew. As they try to unravel the mystery, the family members slowly realize how far they will have to go to restore peace. The eerie horror film has a PG-13 rating for mature material, drug content, language, terror, and violence, all involving teens.
"Generation Um…" stars Keanu Reeves as a disillusioned man in New York City. He is a chauffeur driver who works for an escort service, surrounded by a hard-partying, callous lifestyle that no longer suits his dreams. One evening, the driver has fun with two friends, leading to unexpected consequences. The R rating is due to drug use, language, and strong mature content.

In "The Numbers Station," Emerson is a CIA agent who is haunted by a past tragedy. Consumed by guilt and uncertainty, Emerson tries to concentrate on his current job at a remote numbers station in England. When the station becomes an unexpected target for terrorist groups, Emerson may be able to redeem himself. "The Numbers Station" has an R rating for violence and language.
