Edward Norton joins "Birdman"

March 7th, 2013

Edward Norton has joined the cast of 'Birdman'.

The 'Fight Club' star will play an egotistical lead stage actor who tries to scupper the plans of a former superhero actor turned theatre producer - who is portrayed by Michael Keaton - when the ex-star puts together a play on Broadway based on a short story by Raymond Carver.

The dark comedy film - which will be directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu - will be shot in a Broadway theatre in New York from mid-April, and features a star-studded cast alongside the 'American History X' and the 'Batman' actors, Deadline.com reports.

Emma Stone will play the fallen screen star's daughter, who is just out of rehab and tries to get her life back on track by becoming her father's personal assistant, while Naomi Watts will portray the production's leading lady and Zach Galifianakis has been cast as the play's slimy producer.

Alejandro co-wrote the film's script with Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris and Armando Bo.

The movie will be made by Fox Searchlight and New Regency, with Alejandro producing as well as helming the motion picture.

Edward has just wrapped on Wes Anderson's 'The Grand Budapest Hotel', which also stars Jude Law, Ralph Fiennes and Tilda Swinton.
