The Artist glitters with 6 Golden Globe nominations

George Clooney directs and stars in this 2011 political drama, which is based on the play by Beau Willimon. The film follows a young press spokesman (Ryan Gosling) who falls prey to backroom politics, the treacherous manipulations of veteran operatives and the seduction of a young intern (Evan Rachel Wood). Also starring Marisa Tomei, Paul Giamatti, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Max Minghella.

'The Artist' leads the way at the 2012 Golden Globes, after receiving six nominations.

The silent film homage is up for Best Musical or Comedy, while its stars Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo are nominated for Best Actor Musical and Best Supporting Actress Musical respectively. Michel Hazanavicius has been nominated for Best Director and the movie is also up for Best Screenplay and Best Original Score.

Hazanavicius will take on George Clooney ('The Ides of March'), Woody Allen ('Midnight in Paris'), Alexander Payne ('The Descendants') and Martin Scorsese ('Hugo') in the Best Director category, while the film will compete with '50/50', 'Midnight in Paris', 'Bridesmaids' and 'My Week with Marilyn' for Best Musical or Comedy.

Dujardin will compete alongside Brendan Gleeson ('The Guard'), Joseph Gordon-Levitt ('50/50'), Ryan Gosling ('Crazy Stupid Love') and Owen Wilson ('Midnight in Paris') in his category, while Bejo faces competition from Jessica Chastain ('The Help'), Janet McTeer ('Albert Nobbs'), Octavia Spencer ('The Help') and Shailene Woodley ('The Descendants') for Best Supporting Actress Musical.

Meanwhile, 'The Help' is up for Best Picture, Drama and is up against 'The Descendants', 'Hugo', 'The ides of March', 'Moneyball' and 'War House'.

Other nominees include Kenneth Branagh, Tilda Swinton, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Kate Winslet and the winners will be announced at the star-studded ceremony on January 15, 2012.

The awards will once again be hosted by British funnyman Ricky Gervais.
