The last moments of Daredevil Season 2 made it very clear that Elodie Yung's Elektra was coming back, even if it might be the worst thing possible for the world. That return is now being set in The Defenders instead of in Daredevil Season 3, which only adds to a threat big enough for all four Defenders to work together against.

The show's official Twitter account broke the news, as it has for all of the casting announcements so far.

The groundwork was laid for this long before Yung's return was confirmed. In addition to Charlie Cox's Daredevil being among the Defenders, Scott Glenn's Stick is also advising them in some way, which means he'll also need to fill Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist in on Elektra and her coming resurrection/transformation into the mystical Blue Sky.

With Elektra and the Hand now emerging as major threats on The Defenders, it makes Sigourney Weaver's casting as the actual arch-villain more puzzling. Until the identity of her character is revealed, it is hard to fathom how a white female villain is tied to an ancient Asian cult and their ultimate weapon, and how she may be able to take control of it/her.

In any case, now nearly every major Daredevil character from Season 2 is locked into The Defenders, except for the Punisher and the Kingpin. The Punisher may be included soon enough, if only to further help launch his own show and help explain why Deborah Allen Woll's Karen is a regular on it. As for the Kingpin, he might actually be too small time a threat compared to what Elektra may become.

Shooting has now begun on The Defenders, with all the fights, team ups and threats to be streamed on Netflix sometime next year.
