Antonio Banderas thinks it is "mindblowing" he voices Puss In Boots.

The Spanish actor could barely speak English when he arrived in Hollywood 20 years ago and is still astonished that he has progressed so far as to provide the voiceover for the animated cat, who has his own self-titled movie in cinemas after proving a hit with fans in the 'Shrek' franchise.

Antonio said: "The fact that I now do the voice of Puss in Boots is mindblowing.

"When I was supposed to discuss my first English movie, 'The Mambo Kings', I had dinner with the director Arne Glimcher in London, and I could not follow what he was talking about. I knew a few sentences of English from old Beatles songs, but even though he spoke slowly, I could not understand. He tried to explain what he wanted with his hands for two hours - a big monologue. And I kept making faces, going, 'Oh course, right, right, right'."

Antonio also admitted 'Puss in Boots' was supposed to be French until he took on the role and made the swashbuckling feline more like "Zorro".

He added in an interview with The Scotsman newspaper: "They told me the character had to be French, like a D'Artagnan from The Three Musketeers. But once I jumped in there with my accent, he soon became Zorro."
