Zachary Quinto says 'Star Trek 2' is ''bigger and bolder'' than the first film in the franchise.

The 35-year-old actor plays Spock in the forthcoming sci-fi movie, which has finished filming, and he ''can't wait'' to see what the public's reaction to the finished edition is.

He said: ''It was bigger. It was bolder, I think, than the first one, and that was pretty big and bold from my stand point. I'm really excited to see what they do with it.''

But Zachary was non-committal to the film in terms of plotlines, and believes that the success of the movie is now down to director J.J. Abrams.

He added to The Wrap: ''I feel like, you know, my work is done on the movie right now and until we have to go and promote it, then my work remains done and I let J.J. and his incredible team of people get in there and do the work that they need to do now.

''I feel very fulfilled, but I don't feel particularly attached to what the outcome of that project will be because I have faith in the people that I was collaborating with to make it as good as it can be.''

Fellow star Chris Pine - who returns as Captain James T. Kirk - recently gave his verdict on the film as well, saying: ''There's comedy, which I think J.J. does a great job of, but, like the first one, there's some serious issues being dealt with.

''And I'd say the threat is even greater in this one.''

Star Trek 2 - also starring Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Alice Eve and Benedict Cumberbatch - opens May 17 2013.
