Julie Delpy doesn't regard herself as an actress anymore.

The 42-year-old actress, director and writer wants to step away from being in front of the camera and concentrate on making films in the future after helming a number of motion pictures including '2 Days in Paris', 'The Countess' and most recently in '2 Days in New York'.

She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: ''I don't really think of myself as an actress anymore.

''All my meetings and all the stuff I have to do is related to my directing, very little is to do with my acting.

''I mean, I've chosen to do it that way. I've had offers and stuff. I did choose to act in a film I was not directing, and I will do it again, but I'm just not going to pursue it''.

While Julie doesn't think of herself as an actress, she still attends the odd showbiz party, but only to grab some free food.

She added: ''I go to parties sometimes; you know they have good food, free food. Ha! But you know the fame thing has never been my thing - it's always bothered me.

''I mean I do interviews because it sells the film and I think it would be actually dishonest not to do it, and lying to myself because if I'm doing a job that is public I must be looking for some kind of recognition somehow.''

But Julie confessed she no longer enjoys glamorous red carpet events because it takes so much effort to get ready.

She said: ''I want to be doing work, and make people laugh and have a good time, or scare them or whatever.

''There's no way I could be one of those career-persons driven by glitz and glamour. I have to play the glamour card sometimes and it's so hard for me, it's like bending me into a pretzel - it's like a joke, almost.

''I'm like, 'Oh my god I'm wearing high heels, I'm wearing a tight dress, I have to do my hair.'

''Put me in the make-up and hair chair and I'm in torture.''
